About This Series ·
This five-session teaching series was taught at YWAM Tuen Mun, Hong Kong in May 2026. The central image throughout the entire week is the table — a picture drawn from Psalm 23:5, Luke 22:29–30, and Acts 2:46. Every session approaches the table from a different angle, building from personal identity all the way to cross-cultural discipleship and the nations.

The Father’s Table ·
Spiritual Maturity ·
Big Idea ·
“Every person is sitting at a table. The question is which one. Before you can carry anything to the nations, you have to be seated at the right table — not performing for God but receiving from Him.”
Main Scripture ·
“And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the right to eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom.”
Teaching Content ·
Every person is sitting at a table. Before mission, before strategy, before movement — the most important question you can ask yourself is a simple one: which table am I eating from?
There are two tables in this world. The worldly table offers belonging through performance, identity through reputation, protection through control, purpose through survival, and power through fear. It looks full — but it always leaves you hungry. The Father’s table offers belonging through adoption, identity through Christ, protection through the Father, purpose through mission, and power through love.
Luke 22:29–30 shows us something remarkable. Jesus doesn’t just invite his disciples to observe his table — he grants them the right to eat at it. Not based on achievement. Based on relationship. You are not at the Father’s table to perform. You are there because you were invited.
Luke 10:38–42 gives us the Mary and Martha picture. Martha was serving — doing all the right things, producing, working hard. And yet Jesus said Mary had chosen better. Why? Because Mary sat at the table. She received before she served. Spiritual maturity grows from intimacy, not activity.
And from that seat — Luke 22:29–30 — comes authority. Sit at His table → receive His authority → make disciples of all nations → influence every sector of society. The authority for mission flows from the table, not from talent or strategy.

“Sit at the Father’s table first. Spiritual maturity grows from there.”
Session 2 · Tuesday · 第二課
Enemies Around the Table ·
Perseverance ·
Big Idea ·
“God does not remove your enemies before setting the table. He sets the table in their presence. The question is not whether enemies are real — they are. The question is whether you will stay seated.”
Main Scripture ·
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
Psalm 23:5 ·
Three Things That Pull Missionaries Off the Table ·
💰 Money · 金錢
Finances are the number one way the enemy removes missionaries from the field. It rarely looks like a direct attack — it looks like an opportunity. A better job. More stability. The key question is not whether financial pressure is real. It is: is this a signal from God to stop, or a test of trust to pass through?
Philippians 4:19 — “My God will meet all your needs” · “All your needs”
👨👩👧👦 Family · 家庭
Especially in Asian cultures, family is one of the most powerful forces in a person’s life. When God calls you in a direction your family doesn’t support, the tension can be enormous. After losing three unborn children — including Warrior — Claudia’s response was: “God called us here. The Philippines is home now. Whether there is loss or not.” That was covenant obedience under suffering.
Mark 10:29–30 — “No one who has left family for the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much”
🛡️ Covering ·
The third enemy is isolation. Nobody stays at the Father’s table long-term alone. The enemy’s strategy is not always confrontation — sometimes it is simply separation. Covering means having someone who knows you, can speak truth into your life, and will sit with you in the hard seasons. Elijah had the angel. Paul had Barnabas. David had Jonathan. Jesus had the inner three. Nobody goes alone.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 — “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken”
Elijah — Before the Vision, God Fed Him · 以利亞——異象之前,神先餵飽他
After the greatest miracle of his ministry Elijah burned out completely. He sat under a tree and asked God to let him die. God’s response was not a rebuke or a new strategy. He sent an angel with food. He let Elijah sleep. He fed him again. Before the macro vision — God took care of the person. You cannot run the race well on empty. (1 Kings 19:7)
God’s Question ·
“Where in the Bible did you expect missions would not come with sacrifice and servitude?”

Session 3 · Wednesday · 第三課
Empty Seats at the Table ·
Evangelism ·
Big Idea ·
“The Father’s table is not full yet. Before strategy, Jesus says pray. Before you plan, ask the Lord of the harvest to send more workers.”
Main Scripture ·
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Four Movements from Luke 10 ·
1. Stay Focused — Luke 10:4 ·
No moneybag, no sandals, greet no one on the road. This is not a vacation. The empty chairs remind you why you came. Don’t let the journey become the destination.
“This is not a vacation. This is a mission.”
2. Peace to This House — Luke 10:5–6 ·
Before filling a seat, find the person of peace — someone God has already prepared. Open to your vision, your compassion, your work with youth. One person of peace can open an entire community. If peace is not received — shake the dust off. Not failure. Discernment.
“God goes before you. He prepares the heart.”
3. Work With Local Context — Luke 10:7 ·
Stay in the same house. Eat what they provide. Build with what exists. Local ownership — gifts, service, volunteers, open doors. Same operating system. Upgrade what is already there — don’t replace it.
“Build with what they have. Stay. Eat. Serve.”
4. Proclaim the Kingdom — Luke 10:8–9 ·
Heal the sick. Proclaim the kingdom. The fruit of mission is people seeing the glory of God in their own context. Not as a foreign import — as something happening in their own home.
“The kingdom of God has come near to you.”

God’s kingdom must penetrate all of society — not just the church. (Loren Cunningham / Bill Bright, 1975 — YWAM)
Ephesians 4:12 — “To equip his people for works of service in every sphere.”
Marketplace Missions ·
Business is not just funding mission — business IS mission. The Creation Mandate (Genesis 1:28) establishes work as a sacred calling before the Fall and before the church. Paul was a tentmaker. He used business as gospel access in unreached cities.
Paul’s pattern — Acts 18:1–4: Enter marketplace → Build relationships → Share gospel → Plant church. Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Session 5 · Friday · 第五課
Eating at the Table ·
Cross-Cultural Discipleship ·
Big Idea ·
“The most powerful thing you can do in mission is share a meal. And cross-cultural discipleship requires learning to sit at someone else’s table before you invite them to yours.”
Main Scripture ·
“Every day they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily.”
The Theology of Incarnation ·
Cross-cultural discipleship starts with one theological anchor — the incarnation. God did not invite us up. He came down. John 1:14 — “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” He entered culture. He learned language. He ate meals. He sat at tables before He invited people to a new one.
This means the first question in cross-cultural mission is not “how do I get them to my table?” It is: “Am I willing to sit at theirs first?”
Philippians 2:6–7 — “He made himself nothing” · 1 Corinthians 9:22 — “All things to all people”
Acts 10 — God Broke Peter First · 神先打破彼得
Cornelius was ready. Peter was not. God had to break Peter’s cultural prejudice before He could use him cross-culturally. Acts 10:15 — “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” Acts 10:34–35 — “God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him.”
The barrier to cross-cultural discipleship is often inside the missionary — not in the mission field.
Galatians 3:28 — No Division at the Table ·
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
The gospel does not erase culture. It redeems it. Romans 15:7 — “Accept one another, just as Christ accepted you.” Ephesians 2:14 — “He destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.” Jesus already demolished the wall. We walk through it.
Three Practicals for Cross-Cultural Relationships ·
1. Curiosity Over Judgment ·
Enter their world as a learner, not an expert. Ask — “What does your family celebrate? What do people in your culture fear most? What does your name mean?” Let them speak 70% of the time in a first conversation. Never make one person the representative of their whole culture.
- Proverbs 20:5 — “Good questions draw out deep purposes”
- James 1:19 — “Quick to listen, slow to speak”
- Colossians 4:5–6 — “Make the most of every opportunity”
2. Honor What They Carry ·
Every person carries their culture as part of their identity. Eat what they set before you (Luke 10:8). Learn even 5 words in their language. Understand their family structure before giving advice. Find out what music they listen to and why. Ask about their spiritual background before assuming. You don’t need to agree with everything to honor a person.
- Romans 12:10 — “Honor one another above yourselves”
- 1 Peter 2:17 — “Show proper respect to everyone”
3. Common Ground for the 18–35 Generation · 共同點
This generation — across every culture — shares the same core hungers: identity confusion, family tension, fear of the future, the search for purpose and belonging, social media pressure, loneliness, career anxiety. Start with the shared hunger, not the cultural difference.
- Ecclesiastes 3:11 — “He has set eternity in the human heart” · “Every culture carries this hunger”
- Acts 17:27 — “God did this so they would seek him” · “Every generation is already searching”
The Samaritan Woman — John 4 ·
Jesus crossed three cultural barriers to sit at her table: Jewish → Samaritan (racial), Male → Female (gender), Rabbi → Sinner (moral). John 4:9 — “How can you ask me for a drink?” She knew the cultural rules. He broke them anyway. John 4:39 — “Many Samaritans believed because of the woman’s testimony.” One cross-cultural relationship changed a city. The gospel crosses every cultural barrier — but someone has to go first.
D-Group Principles ·
A D-group is not a Bible study. It is a shared life around the Word. Mark 3:14 — “He appointed twelve that they might be with him.” Discipleship is presence, not program.
